10 witchy ideas for Spring

10 witchy ideas for Spring

March is a month of transformation, where the icy grip of winter slowly gives way to the budding promise of spring.

Ostara is a modern pagan holiday that celebrates the spring equinox, which typically falls on March 20th or 21st and marks the beginning of spring and the awakening of nature. It is named after the Germanic goddess Ostara or Eostre, who was associated with the dawn and new beginnings. The holiday is often marked with the lighting of fires, the decorating of eggs, and the honouring of nature’s rebirth and renewal.

We awake with renewed enthusiasm, armed with new cleaning supplies and ready to go into battle with the dust bunnies and cobwebs that have been hidden in the dark winter months. We throw ourselves with gusto into cleaning, de cluttering and re- claiming our domestic kingdom from the inertia that winter months can allow.

The energy of renewal is palpable, carried by the restless winds and the lengthening days. For witches, this is a time of awakening – a period to shake off the dormancy of winter and step into the fertile, blossoming magick of the season.

With the Spring Equinox (Ostara) at its heart, March is a really potent time for growth and manifestation, whilst still keeping balance at our core.

From planting seeds – both literal and metaphorical, greeting the return of the Sun, or working with the shifting elements, this season is brimming with opportunities to deepen your craft.

Blessed Be

1.    Celebrate the Spring Equinox (Ostara)

This had to be our 1st.  Arriving on the 20th of March, Ostara marks the balance of light and dark, a moment of equilibrium before the days grow longer.

This is a powerful time for renewal, fertility, and growth. Decorate your altar with eggs, fresh flowers, and symbols of balance. Celebrate with a feast, light candles to welcome the returning sun, and set intentions for the season ahead.

2   2. Plant seeds with intention

As the earth awakens, so does your ability to manifest with ease!

Hold seeds in your hands, whisper your desires into them, and feel their dormant energy waiting to burst forth. Bury them in the soil with reverence, knowing that as they grow, so too will your goals and dreams.

Water them with moon-charged water for an extra magickal boost.

3. Make a Floral Cocktail or Mocktail

Celebrate the scents and flavours of spring with a floral cocktail or mocktail. Try a lavender lemonade (with or without gin), a chamomile iced tea, or a cocktail made with rose syrup and garnished with rose petals. These beverages make a perfect addition your Ostara feast or tea party.

4. Try oomancy (egg divination)

Oomancy is the little-known art of divination using eggs.

It’s a little like reading tea leaves, and relies on the intuitive and interpretive skills of the practitioner. Set a clear intention, then crack an egg, separating the yolk and the white, and then drop the white into hot water. The shapes formed in the water can then be “read” to foretell the future and receive guidance to a question.

5. Make coffee soap

Now Spring has officially sprung our natural witchy inclination to get out in nature. A day pottering in the garden , clearing weeds, planting seeds and feeling soil under our fingertips is a day well spent. Try this recipe for Coffee Soap to keep by your kitchen sink. It’s also great if you’ve been cooking with garlic or garlic as the coffee neutralizes unpleasant smells

6. Make a floral bath infusion

Immerse yourself in the magick of spring with a floral bath infusion. Floralbaths can be SO beautiful, but also pretty messy once the initial Instagram aesthetic has worn off! So instead of steeping your petals straight into the tub, create floral bath tea, filling them with your favourite dried flowers.

7. Make A Spring wreath

Whether you’re celebrating Imbolc, Ostara, or simply want to invite in the season’s yummy, uplifting energy making a lovingly crafted wreath is a great way to do so.

A wreath isn’t just decor. It’s a sacred circle, a symbol of unity, life, and the cyclical nature of the seasons. So done with intention, hanging a wreath on your front door can be a spiritual act. Check out this lovely collection of witchy wreaths here to spark your creativity

8.  Bake lavender shortbread

This is one of my favorite recipes for lavender & lemon shortbread   They taste like springtime baked into a delicious, buttery confection. Bake with love and wisper your intentions as you stir the mixture

Lavender flowers, Cream together the butter and sugar, then add the egg yolk, lemon juice and lemon zest, and stir to combine. Then add the flour, arrowroot or cornstarch, dried lavender, and salt.

I use a Kitchenaid stand up mixer with the paddle attachment to mix everything together until a ball of dough forms.  You could do the same  by hand or with another type of mixer.  Once you have your dough ball, Take it out of the form it into a log shape. I like to roll my log back and forth on parchment paper to get my log nice and smooth and even.

Then wrap your dough log in parchment paper, and put in the freezer for 30 minutes.

9.  Charge your crystals in the spring sun

With the growing daylight, now is the time to let your crystals bathe in the sun’s strengthening energy. Place them outside during the equinox to absorb the balance of light and dark.

Use this energy to bring harmony to your spellwork and personal power.

10.  Have an outdoor picnic

Give thanks to nature by celebrating with the first outdoor picnic of the year. There’s something wonderfully grown-up about owning a proper picnic hamper. Keep a look out in charity shops and boot sales if you don’t already have one, and use proper crockery (no nasty single use plastics please)
